The Ballpark Buster

Every once in a while, a miracle of nature occurs in our midst. This is a story about Buster Logan, who was born a normal Pennsylvania boy in 1928 but soon begins growing much bigger than those around him. It turns out he has a medical condition causing him to grow to the point of near-giant. Although modern medicine is able to intervene and slow his growth, Buster has already become a very large person at over seven feet tall. He’s also extremely powerful, as he takes up weightlifting after his recovery from surgery. Bringing great size and strength to the realm of sports, he soon becomes a true force on the field.

Buster eventually makes it to the major leagues in his late teens, and he takes many of the classic baseball parks of the 1940s and ‘50s by storm, hitting astonishing home runs in baseball cathedrals like Ebbets Field, Sportsman’s Park, Forbes Field, the Polo Grounds, Braves Field (Boston), Crosley Field and old Yankee Stadium. Travel alongside our good-natured baseball giant as he conquers these hallowed ballparks with jaw-dropping blasts.

This award-winning work of historical fiction by Don Shearer celebrates an era when baseball was simpler, the ballparks were historic and the giants on the field had lots of fun.
